Let’s Take Care of the Environment

Whether attending on your own or with grandchildren age 6 and older, this morning of interactive learning and fun will help create a more environmentally friendly York County!

Join TroveStreet for a tour of the York County Resource Recovery Center, the first waste-to-energy facility in Pennsylvania to use advanced air pollution control technology.  Learn about the technology that not only reduces your garbage to a small volume of ash, but also recycles it into electricity.  The tour consists of an orientation session in the Education Center, followed by a walking tour of the main areas in the waste-to-energy facility, including  the “Tipping Floor”, Turbine Generator Room, and Control Room.

After the tour, participants will “get their hands dirty” while learning about worm composting.  This hands on educational session demonstrates the role redworms play in the environment and in recycling leftover food waste.  Each participant will create their very own worm bin to take home, along with instructions to produce optimum compost results.

Additional Details:

• Individuals must be at least six years of age or older to tour the facility.
• Tour length is about 1 hour.
• Participants should wear comfortable clothing and flat closed-toe shoes.
• All participants are required to follow facility safety rules, including the use of hard hats and safety glasses which are provided.
